In order to optimize the effectiveness of our University emblems, it is important to use them correctly. When emblems are modified, their ability to communicate the standard of excellence that is the hallmark of Stanford University is diminished. The examples below show unacceptable renditions of the Stanford emblems. Block "S" Artwork

Do not place the standard Block "S" artwork on a dark background. There is a special version of the seal artwork for use when there is insufficient contrast between the "S" and background colors. The artwork incorporates an additional white line around the exterior edge of the "S" to separate it from the colored background.

Cardinal and black colors should not be swapped

A Stanford signature should not be placed on a busy or confusing background

A Stanford signature should not be placed on a background that does not provide sufficient contrast

Do not place a department name in a signature without prior authorization

Do not alter the typeface, replace, or add any type in a signature

Do not produce a one-color Cardinal signature
Color
Always use the correct Cardinal color and follow the color guidelines.
