FAQWhy can't I have food or drinks in the libraries?Submitted by cmatson@stanford.edu on Wed, 08/18/2010 - 13:15.Question: Why is it that food and drinks are not permitted in the libraries? Answer: We are a research library and we therefore need to protect the collections. Starchy foods and sugary drinks attract silverfish, which then destroy books by chewing through pages and bindings. To help us protect the collections and control silverfish, please refrain from consuming food and drinks in the library. »
