One-Step Sparring Combinations

Each of these combinations is initiated from the ready stance (jhoon-bi). Begin by stepping back into the appropriate stance and performing the block-punch-kick sequence, followed by a kihap. Return to jhoon-bi after each combination and repeat it stepping back with the other foot. The instructions below describe each combination with the left foot moving backwards into the stance.

White Belt

AP SUHGI (walking stance)

  1. Right hand down block, left hand middle punch, left leg front kick, right leg front kick (kihap).
  2. Right hand upper block, left hand middle punch, left leg roundhouse kick, right leg roundhouse kick (kihap).
  3. Right hand outside block, left hand middle punch, left leg round side kick, left leg step side kick (kihap).
  4. Right hand inside block, left hand middle punch, left leg inside crescent kick, right leg inside crescent kick (kihap).
  5. Right hand fist block, left hand middle punch, left leg outside crescent kick, right leg outside crescent kick (kihap).

Yellow Belt

AP GOOBEE (forward stance)

  1. Right hand down block, left/right double middle punch, left leg twist kick, right leg outside crescent kick (kihap).
  2. Right hand upper block, left/right double middle punch, left leg axe kick, right leg step side kick (kihap).
  3. Right hand outside block, left/right double middle punch, left leg round side kick, right leg turnback side kick (kihap).
  4. Right hand inside block, left/right double middle punch, left leg roundhouse kick, right leg step side kick [NB: left leg steps IN FRONT of right leg] (kihap).
  5. Right hand knife-hand block, left/right double middle punch, left leg round heel kick, right leg step heel kick [NB: left leg steps IN FRONT of right leg] (kihap).

Orange Belt

DWI GOOBEE to AP GOOBEE (back stance to forward stance)

  1. Right hand down block, left forward stance, left/right double middle punch, left leg front kick, right leg roundhouse kick (kihap).
  2. Right hand upper block, left forward stance, left/right double middle punch, left leg roundhouse kick, right leg turnback side kick (kihap).
  3. Right hand outside block, left forward stance, left/right double middle punch, left leg inside crescent kick, right leg turnback side kick (kihap).
  4. Right hand inside block, left forward stance, left/right double middle punch, left leg inside axe kick, left leg step heel kick (kihap).

Purple Belt

JOOCHOOM SUHGI (horse-riding stance)

  1. Step outside 45° with right leg, right hand low palm block, left/right double punch, right leg side kick, left leg jump turnback side kick (kihap).
  2. [NB: High punch] Step inside 45° with left leg, left hand high inside block, grab opponent's punching hand with right hand, left hand elbow strike/backfist, turnback right hand high/low elbow strikes, left leg jump around inside crescent kick (kihap).
  3. [NB: High punch] Step inside 45° with left leg, right hand high outside knifehand block/left hand knifehand strike, grab opponent's punching hand, left hand high punch, left leg high roundhouse kick, left leg step axe kick (kihap).
  4. Step outside 45° with right leg, right hand inside knifehand block, turn around left hand turnback knifehand chop, turn around right/left double kidney punch, left leg step spin kick (kihap).
  5. Step inside 45° with left leg, double inside knifehand block, left hand knifehand chop/backfist, right leg spin kick (kihap).

Blue Belt

DWI GOOBEE to AP GOOBEE (back stance to forward stance)

  1. Left back stance, right hand high/low knife-hand block, left forward stance left/right double middle punch, left leg low/high front kick, right leg low/high front kick (kihap).
  2. Left back stance, right hand high/low fist block, left/right double middle punch, left leg low/high roundhouse kick, right leg low/high roundhouse kick (kihap).
  3. Left back stance, high/low double knife-hand block, left/right double middle punch, left leg low/high side kick, right leg low/high side kick (kihap).
  4. Left back stance, high/low double fist block, left/right double middle punch, left leg low roundhouse kick/high heel kick, right leg low roundhouse kick/high heel kick (kihap).
  5. Left back stance, right hand knife-hand upper block/left hand inside knife-hand chop, left leg jump spin kick (kihap).

Brown Belt

  1. Right hand high/low fist block, left hand punch, right leg sliding low/high front kick, left leg low/high front kick (kihap).
  2. Right hand high/low knife-hand block, left hand punch, right leg sliding low/high roundhouse kick, left leg low/high roundhouse kick (kihap).
  3. High/low double fist block, left hand punch, right leg sliding low/high side kick, left leg low/high turnback side kick (kihap).
  4. High/low double knife-hand block, left hand punch, right leg sliding low roundhouse kick/high heel kick, left leg turnback heel kick (kihap).
  5. Double diamond arm block, left hand twist punch, left leg inside crescent kick, left leg jump around inside crescent kick (kihap).

Red Belt

BUHM SUHGI (tiger stance)

  1. Right hand low palm block, right hand outside knife-hand chop, left hand insde knife-hand chop, right leg jump around side kick (kihap).
  2. Low double palm block, right/left double hammer punch, left leg roundhouse kick, left leg jump around roundhouse kick (kihap).
  3. High double palm block, right/left slap hand, right leg jump around spin kick (kihap).
  4. Right arm arm block & backfist, left leg high spin kick, left leg low spin kick (kihap).
  5. Double middle palm block, right/left high tiger claw, left leg jump turnback axe kick (kihap).

Dan Bo

JOOCHOOM SUHGI (horse-riding stance)

  1. Step out 45° to the inside (left) with left leg, double inside palm block, right hand on back of opponent's neck, left hand pick up front of opponent's right thigh, throw opponent into left (forward) cartwheel.
  2. Step out 45° to the inside (left) with left leg, double inside palm block, left hand on opponent's forehead, right hand on underneath of opponent's left thigh, throw into right (rear) cartwheel.
  3. Step out 45° to the outside (right) with right leg, double inside palm block, left hand on back of opponent's head, right hand pick up front of opponent's right thigh, throw opponent into left (forward) cartwheel.
  4. Step out 45° to the outside (right) with right leg, double inside palm block, right hand on opponent's forehead, left hand on underneath of opponent's left thigh, throw opponent into right (rear) cartwheel.
  5. Step out 45° to the inside (left) with left leg, double inside palm block, left/right double back slap hand, left hand middle palm strike to solar plexus.
