Shivratri Satsang

Here are pictures from our Shivratri Puja, during the midnight arati. We did readings on the significance of Shiva, chanted the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra, Om Namah Shivaya, meditated on OM, and performed the Arati, both to Om Jaya Jagadeesh and Lingashtakam (Brahma Murari Surarchita Lingam). The spirit was devotional and energizing and we look forward to conducting more such pujas.

Gandhi Jayanti

Covered by The Stanford Daily.

On Oct 2, 2005, we put together a mosaic on the life and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi.

Aarti Rao and Aman Govil started us off with an audio-visual presentation on "The Life and Times of Mahatma Gandhi." This also included a Flash Journey.

Rashmi Raghu spoke on "The Making of Gandhi," highlighting his early life and the struggles he faced. Rashmi gave us a glimpse of Gandhi, the man, with all his shortcomings and reminded us that his philosophy was a journey more than a destination. She brought out events from his life - how as a child, he could not learn the art of copying, as a householder, he wasn't able to get over his jealousy, his decision to propagage vegetarianism and be a celibate even as a householder.

Morghan Velez Young from The World Peace Buddhists spoke on "Gandhi and Buddhism," on how Gandhi was deeply inspired by the way of the Buddha.

Rev. Richard Foster from the Episcopal Lutheran Ministry spoke on "Gandhi and Christianity." He played a wonderful piece on the piano and brought out the point that Non-violence wouldn't work with people of no conscience, such as Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany.

Leila Ehsani from the Baha'i community spoke on Gandhi and Baha'i ideals.

Dhwani performed the song, "Sabarmati key sant"

Abhishek Bapna spoke on "Gandhi as a Social Reformer: Untouchability"

Brandon Hunter from the King Papers Project spoke on "Gandhi and Dr. King"

Aditi Kapoor and her dance team performed to the tune of Tagore's inspiring song, "Teri Awaaz Pey Koi Naa Aaye," one of Gandhi's favorites.

Prof. Ron Howard from the Dept of Management Science and Engineering spoke on "Non-Coercion: A step toward Non-violent societies."

Somik Raha spoke on "The Legacy of Gandhi."

Karthik Nagaraj videographed the event. Contact him if you need a copy.
