It has been a while since we have been involved with Carter Centers. Our daughter Emily was born in Baltimore Maryland in August of 2001 along with her twin sister Olivia.
At about 25 weeks gestation Emily was diagnosed with Alobar Holoprosencephaly and we were told she would not survive birth. When she did they sent us home on hospice and we thought she would die soon after. Her hospice nurse got us into a neurosurgeon at D.C. Childrens and she was shunted within the week.
Emily will be 7 in two weeks and is doing incredible. She has a seizure disorder which we are controlling with medication, a VSD and severe developemental delays, but doesn't let that stop her.
She is making gains each day and is usually happy with life. She loves school and has been accepted by everyone. For a little girl that wasn't even supposed to be here she is doing great!
