What an incredible year Sophie has had. Early in January she started walking properly and hasn't stopped since. In early February she started at her early intervention unit for one and a half days a week and it took all of term one for her to settle properly and not cry when I left her. Since then she has come along in leaps and bounds. She loves being with her friends - she has a special little boyfriend called Lachlan whom she adores. Her teacher said that if he let them be they would spend the whole day kissing and cuddling and playing with each other - how cute!!! In July we placed her in a regular child care centre (at the college I teach at) so that she could play with other children and learn more from them. She has adjusted beautifully and loves her time there.
In October she was showing signs of neurological problems as her left leg was not working properly and she was slow and sluggish. The neuro diagnosed night seizures and we started her on a low dose medication and it has made an incredible difference to her. She is brighter, more alert and full of energy. Our next big milestone is to try and get more communication - ideally speech. She gets her message across very well with her eyes and gestures, but this is harder for others to understand and act on.
We thank God each day for this incredible blessing her has given us in Sophie. Everyone who works with her adores her and they go beyond the call of duty to help her and befriend her. We are so grateful for such a positive year for Sophie and the many achievements she has accomplished.
