Hello, My name is Amy Colletti, and my husband is Mike. Our youngest daughter Elizabeth (Abby), has mild semi-lobar HPE. She celebrated her 4th birthday 2-5-05. We learned of the HPE diagnosis when Abby was 11 months old. Since that time Abby has been making progres in all areas of development. She receives PT 2x a week, OT 1x a week and speech therapy 2x a week. Her medical conditions are bilateral microtia/ aural atresia - (hearing impairment)hemifacial microsomia, mild paralysis on the right side of her face. Reflux, that is treated and controlled with medication, Abby also suffers with constipation issues. For spacticity Abby is injected with botox to help relax her muscles, so that her movement is easier. Despite these obstacles Abby is a happy child, and very bright. Her favorite Television shows are The Wiggles, hi 5, and Barney. Abby loves to look at books and hear the stories, she has learned her colors, verbs, and working on shapes. Physical therapy has helped strengthen her neck, and trunk muscles. PT has given her more confidence to explore with her body, and she now is trying to crawl, sit, and be more independent. Most of calories come from Pediasure, but she is able to eat most textures. Treating Disphagia (oral motor-swallowing) has been a priority so Abby can enjoy eating the foods she enjoys. With prayer, love, patience, and therapy, Abby has blossomed into an outgoing little girl.
