Our daughter Alison ("Ali") was born on 6/24/99 and has the diagnoses of Holodiencephaly, agenesis of the corpus callosum with an inter-hemispheric cyst, hydrocephalus (with VP shunt), seizure disorder, cerebal palsy, global developmental delays, and corical visual impairment. She is fed via g-tube and functions at the level of a newborn.
While some specialists have given her the HPE diagnosis, we were told by others that it was more appropriately under the category of 'Holodiencephaly'. Our big question is: has anyone else out there been given this diagnosis? We know that labels don't mean that much but it would be nice to know if there are others out there with this diagnosis.
Currently we are trying to find the best medication combination for her seizures. It's a guessing game and although we know we won't be able to completely eliminate them, hopefully we'll have some success in decreasing them soon since they are causing her to be extremely fussy.
Despite all the challenges with having a child with special needs, Ali truly is our little earth angel who has taught us so much. God bless the Carter Center for helping all of us...God bless all those with special needs and their parents and caregivers!
