Our story began in March 2004 when the word HOLOPROSENCEPHALY entered our world. During a routine ultrasound with our first pregnancy we were told that our baby girl had a severe condition called Alobar HPE, and that she would be "incompatible with life". Natalia Emmanuelle Nothstine was born on July 21, 2004 and lived for 1 month. She had an adorable single nostril nose, microcephaly, and close set eyes that she never could open. Her little head was full with beautiful dark brown hair, and her fingers were so long and graceful. She made the most precious noises, not a typical infant cry, but more like a soft wimper that was so soothing to our ears. I fed her with a feeding tube through her mouth and felt proud to watch her get her few rolls and chubbies. We loved her so much. We knew that Natalia was the baby that we had prayed for and that she was the one that we wanted. And so as my mind recalls the statement that one Perinatologist had made, "incompatible with life", I can't help but smile and shake my head. Our Natalia is so very much alive. Her life on earth was a great blessing, she touch so many hearts and left an impression on so many lives that we can feel proud. Our hearts are very heavy and sorrow comes because we miss her so dearly, but the greatest pain comes with the thought of never having her at all. I thank God for the 33 days that we had her and thank Him for giving us the grace that we needed to enjoy and cherish her. Thank you and may the Lord bless you and your angels. Love, Nicole Nothstine
