Cadence Mickele Balentine was born on May 12, 2004. I had a perfect pregnancy, no problems and hardly no morning sickness. I had my ultrasound which showed we were having a healthy baby girl. When I finally had her (emergency c-section), she was born with an extra little thumb on her left hand. Her head was kind of cone shaped but the Dr. thought she may have been in the birth canal and it would return to normal. The next morning when her head was still cone shaped, they did an Ultrasound of her head which showed a lot of fluid. They immediately moved her to Childrens ICU in Oklahoma City where they did an MRI. This is when we were told she had Alobar Holoprosencephaly. My whole family was in total shock. It's hard to believe that God would give you an unhealthy baby. (I soon realized that God give's special babies to special families) The doctors seemed shocked that we didn't already know about her diagnosis. 3 days later I finally got to take her home. She is not on any medication, no seizures, no feeding tube, does not have DI. So far she is just like a normal baby. She has a little problem holding her head up, but has made a lot of progress in the last couple of weeks. I was just wondering if there is any other families with Alobar HPE and similiar problems? Please e-mail me if you care to talk. It would be so nice to get to talk to someone who has experienced this and can give advice on what to watch for or what to ask the Dr.'s etc. So far we have found no one in Oklahoma that knows anything about HPE. Please write. Jennifer Balentine
