I am just updating about my son Andrew Brayden Stanley(Andy). Andy passed away on August 10, 2004 just 10 days before his 1st birthday. The doctors believe he vomited and had a siezure at the same time and aspirated. I would just like to tell anyone that will find out or has just found out about their child has holoprosencephaly. Even though my son died young he made it 11 months and 20 days longer than any of the doctors said. Andy also did so much more than the doctors said he would do. He took all of his food by mouth and I had started feeding him baby food and he did great. He could push himself up and hold up his head since he was 2 weeks old. He moved himself around in his bed. He tried to crawl. He could sit up for a few minutes by himself. He could see and hear. Andy said his first word which was NaNa(mama, dada, or baba). He tried to grab things and even did at times. The doctors just looked at my sons face (which was the midline defect-no bridge or cartlidge to nose, and a cleft lip) and assumed the worst without looking at his brain scan. Andy's full diagnosis was lobar HPE, microcephaly, slight hydrocephaly, seizure disorder, DI, hypothyriod, low growth hormone. I just want anyone faced with the problems I was to do your own reseach and not to listen to everything the doctors say they do not know everything. Make up your own mind. I wouldn't have traded a day with my son even though it was a tough year. I would do it all over again. Thank You Laura Stanley
