Hi. My name is Jennifer, thanks for taking the time to read my story. I am currently 19 weeks pregnant with a baby girl who has been diagnosed with holoprosencephaly. After the first sonogram the doctors said it was hydrocephalus, Upon a second look they said it looked like Alobar type of HPE. After a third look (just earlier this week) they said it looks like semi-lobar HPE. I had an amniocentesis done with normal results. I am writing today hoping maybe someone has some words of wisdom or any possible guidance they can offer. My husband and I are just wondering what to do. The doctors say the child could have severe impairment and may not even live to term but they cannot say anything is for sure. My husband and I are considering termination of the pregnancy but we are just unsure. If there is a chance this child could have any quality of life we want to give her that chance. The doctors and genetic counselors we have spoken to have not offered any sound advice. They just say it's up to us --and give us a bunch of statistics. If any one has any thoughts to share while we make this difficult choice, they would be welcomed. Thank you.
