Hi my name is Camilla and i am the proud mother of two very normal healthy children. My daughter Ebony is 8 and my son Brandon is 1. I am also 34 weeks pregnant with a baby girl who has semi-lobar holoprosencephaly. I found out i was pregnant at 24 weeks after being on the the pill injection since the birth of my son and was sent to have an ultrasound straight away. Two days later myself and my best friend who is also pregnant went to have joint ultrasounds. I first realised something was wrong when they wouldnt give me a copy of the results. I thought it was just a doctor trying to being doctorly and proceeded to see a different doctor to get my results. They told me that they thought my baby might have downs syndrome and booked me into the Mater Mothers Hospital to have an ultrasound the next day. The ultrasound proved to be inconclusive but that something was wrong and they could only guess what it was. So after the worst weekend of my life i was sent for an MRI (a horrible experience in itself) that confirmed semi lobar HPE. This is all i know. The doctors have many times to abort but i couldnt. The only information i have been able to find apart from lots of scary photos is on this great web site. There is only one other case of this condition in Australia so support is limited. I am lucky to have the support of a great family who while the are in denial that there son could be having a baby that isnt "perfect" have been great at keeping my spirits up. You guys are all amazing people and i have no idea how i will be able to cope. You guys are super mums and dads!!!! If anybody would like to chat or help out a very scared mum to be with any info i would really appreciate it. I would really appreciate somebody telling me what this really means in terms of care and quality of life as i want to give my daughter the best possible life that i can. Thanks
