I had a wonderful pregnancy- no complications our Dr. even commented on how picture perfect it was. Chloe was our dream come true- beautiful baby! We had no idea that anything was wrong. At 6 months of age Chloe was not trying to rollover or sit up-so as a concerned first time mom I went back to the pedictrician that I respected and admired greatly and told him my concerns again- he assured me that I was just nervous and to stop reading so many books! Well at Chloe 1st birthday party she still was not sitting without support so I made another appointment and insisted that our pedictrician take me more seriously. I made arrangments for us to go to St. Louis Children's Hospital- that trip which in reality is just an hour away from home and a trip that we took several times for fun- was very dreadful- I had a feeling that my perfect baby was not so perfect- and I was right. Chloe recieved her MRI and I insisted that they read it right away. She was DX with semi-lobar HPE. I made a promise to myself and my family that day that this was a stepping stone for us- This was going to make us stronger- and it has. Chloe is a beautiful child ( has even won baby beauty pagents)she is conquering her PT, OT, & speech goals. She is now getting ready to turn 4yrs old and she can do the things that are expected of her to do- it just might take her a little longer and that ok. I know sometimes you feel like crawling under the covers and not getting back out- but I promise it is worth it- everytime she smiles or tells you that she loves you or gives you "squeeze huggies"- its worth it. I know my family is blessed that Chloe only has Developmental delays and no medical problems that we know of and I thank my lucky stars everyday and my heart goes out to other families. But we have to stick together and work for our children and advocate for them. I strongly believe if we give up so will they. We are planning to visit the Carter Center in Maryland this coming up summer and I hope to get alot of answers and I hope to be able to share them with other families.
