Our daughter was recently diagnosed with semilobar HPE (at age 4 months). An ultrasound performed when I was about 21 weeks pregnant revealed our baby had hydrocephalus, but nothing more at that time. My daughter had an MRI on the day she was born in order to confirm the hydrocephalus and perform the VP shunt surgery. Apparently the hydrocephalus was so massive that it masked the underlying cause (HPE). Subsequently, we had concerns with our daughter's vision and hearing, which is why the second MRI was conducted. This second MRI revealed her current diagnosis.
