Will was born on 7-03-02 after a normal pregnancy. A late ultrasound revealed his head was lagging behind by 2 - 3 weeks, but when he was born he look perfectly "normal" and he nursed well shortly after birth. Within a couple hours of delivery we had an ultra sound done on his head and then it was followed up with an MRI the next morning. It was confirmed he had semi-lobar HPE. He has developed fairly typically for a HPE child. He has central DI, cerebral palsy, and wears glasses. He relates well to his surroundings, and although his CP is very involved, he smiles and "gaas" and enjoys his family. We are very thankful that he has never had any serious illness or seizures. He monitored by a multi disciplinary team every 6 months and receives OT & PT in our home once a week through early intervention. When he was 18 mos old he got a g-button so we could make sure he was staying hydrated. Since that time, we have had virtaully no difficulty in maintaining is sodium level, and only need to check it about once every three months. Will is a great kid. We are so happy to have him in our family. After the things we read when he was first diagnosed, we can't believe he has just turned two and is doing so well.
