Taslyn was born just over two years ago on May 17th, 2002. A late ultrasound had led to a diagnosis of a possible dandy-walker cyst. We went to Children's Hospital in Vancouver and after a very long day we were told that our baby had holoprosencephaly. After an MRI we were told that Taslyn probably wouldn't survive birth and that if she did she would be alobar. Tas was born with only one kidney and microcephaly.
Tas is an incredibly happy little girl who smiles at everyone but especially at men. She is a tremendous flirt. She coos and seems to enjoy touching hair and faces (she touches by accident we think...it is hard to tell).
Taslyn has extremely high tone and now has AFO's and a seating support device. We have a wheelchair and a hospital bed and are waiting on a standing device. Tas is tube fed and is presently 18 pounds. Her weight is a problem. Tas now has a baby brother and the two of them are getting along famously.
Taslyn has been an amazing gift. The only drawback is her sensitivity. Anytime there is any sad music or upset voices (on a movie) Tas begins to cry. Only comedies for us!
We look forward to hearing from other families and appreciate all of your stories.
