We are the very proud parents of a nine year old Alobar Holoprosencephaly boy. Francis Jr. came into this world on 2/27/93 about 6 weeks early. I had very high blood pressure and so my labor was induced. Actually, we did not know that Francis had a disability until he was a month old. He was diagnosed at UCSF hospital in San Francisco. We live in Seaside California which is located on the Monterey peninsula. I don't know about anyone else, but the doctors following his case in the beginning were not very personable. They actually wanted us to leave our baby at the hospital and give up all rights! We have been more or less on our own ever since. Francis Jr. remains healthy although he does need 24-hour care. He is not on any medicines and does not have a shunt. He has not had any seizures and is quite an alert little guy. He cannot walk, talk or eat on his own. His food has to be pureed, and he drinks from a special cup. But more importantly, he is extremely happy and enjoys school very much. We would love to hear from anyone about their very special angels.
