Our son Jonathan was born on 8/22/2001. He only lived 5 days he passed away on 8/27/2001. We did not know that he was sick until I delivered. The first indication that something was wrong were the seizures he was having as my doctors delivered him. He also had a cleft lip. The NICU staff did a brain scan and found that his brain did not develope properly. At first they thought it was Trisomy 13 even though he didn't have all the indicaters. After the blood work ruled out the trisomy they told us they thought it was HPE. We have not been able to get alot of info about this disorder. If we were to have another child will it happen again? Nobody seems to have a clear answer. Hopefully by the time my other son is old enough to have children they will have more info on HPE.
