My name is Candace Mobley and I have a four and a half month old little boy named Michael Bangit III. He was born with holoprosencephaly and microcephaly. He had an MRI done April 3, 2001. Doctors think that he might have semilobal HPE because the front of his brain is one not two halves. There is no separation except in the back. The doctor said that he may not be able to talk but the doctor may be wrong. Michael has to be the one to show us what he can do. We have a Physical Therapist that comes out to the house two times a week and an Early Intervention worker that comes every Monday one time a week. Michael is doing very good with both of them. He has tight muscle tone in his legs and arms and he arch4es his head back too far. He straightens out tight when he is really mad. The PT is working with bending his legs toward his chest which breaks up the tightness of his muscle tone. The PT also puts Michael in different positions to help with his muscle tone. The Early Interventionist works with him on tracking objects and reaching out for things and also helping him not arch too far back when he is on his stomach. Early Intervention works getting Michael to turn his head toward sounds. He can already hold his head up, which started at about one month of age. He can reach for items but not grab them yet and can turn his head toward sounds, which started at 2 to 3 months of age. He is doing very well. Michael is a very alert and interactive baby.
