Our experience began when after an routine ultrasound at 7 1/2 months, our doctor told us that our baby's head was smaller than it should be. We were sent to a larger hosiptal for another ultrasound. There the doctor told us that our daughter(my second child)had HPE and a hole in her heart. He never really gave us an exact prognosis for her, but we were prepared for the worst. Because of the rural setting we lived in, a induction was scheduled for November 1, 1995. We checked into the hospital at 7:00 am and Kendal Jordan was born 4 1/2 hours later. Both my husband I were very surprised when she came out crying, as we were told that she probably would not survive labor and delivery. We had her baptized right after she was born with some family members present. They then took her to be evaluated. Afterwards, the doctors told us that they suggested that we take her off life support and let nature take its course. We believed that in our hearts that was what was best for our daughter. She lived 19 hours and died in my arms. We are so grateful for those hours we had with her. We rocked her, held her, and loved her. We have footprints and a lock of her thick, black, curly hair. The genetic testing didn't show anything and the doctor told me, "When you get pregnant again, I want you to come for an ultrasound so that I can tell you that everything is perfect." Well three years later, I did and everything was perfect and our third child Shae is two years old now.
