HD Blog: Discussing the Case of Carol Carr

HD Blog (http://www.huntingtons.info/), an independent site run by Dave Bowdish, is one of several weblogs on the Internet about Huntington’s disease and one of many about health and medicine. A weblog, also known as a blog, is a webpage that consists of short, frequently updated posts on virtually any topic, such as current events, sports, or even diary entries.

Bowdish’s posts to HD Blog are organized into categories like “Caregiver’s Guide” and “Research,” to which people can respond with their comments. Many of these posts stimulate discussion on controversial issues in the HD community, such as the case of Carol Carr. To learn more about Carr’s situation, click here: HD on TV). After Bowdish posted a summary of the Dateline story, along with his opinions, several people replied with extensive messages regarding their stance on the issue. While Bowdish was disappointed that Dateline focused more on the Carrs than on HD, most people who responded were pleased that the show focused on one family’s struggle with HD, even if it did not cover the whole scope of the disease. Some of the responses were from HD caregivers or former caregivers who understood why Carr killed her two sons and cautioned others not to judge her until they “walk in her shoes.”.
