Aimee is having the time of her life living life in the real world as a recent Stanford grad. She is a proud member of the class of 2012 and majored in Psychology. She decided to join HOPES because she likes the way HOPES serves the HD community and the potential number of people it reaches around the world. In her spare time, Aimee likes to read, run, write, play video games, and watch the sunset over the ocean. Her long-time wish is to fly.

Ravali is a junior double majoring in Communication and Biology who joined the HOPES team in March 2012. Being a premed student who really enjoys to write, Ravali was thrilled to find a program such as HOPES that allowed her to bring together her two different interests in the name of medical outreach. As a member of the class of 2014, Ravali also serves on the sophomore class cabinet and writes a weekly opinion column entitled “Ravalations” for the Stanford Daily. She often spends time wishing life were more like a Bollywood movie, but instead had settled for captaining Dil Se, Stanford’s only nationally competitive co-ed Bollywood fusion dance team.

Amy is a student researcher who is thrilled to be joining HOPES. A member of the Stanford class of 2013, she plans on majoring in Biology, with an emphasis on molecular and cellular biology. She joined HOPES because she is very interested in the biological workings of Huntington’s Disease and its treatments. She also thinks that compiling all the research on the forefront of HD into one website written to be accessible to everyone is a brilliant idea. Her favorite part of HOPES is getting to meet so many remarkable people who share her goals. In her free time, Amy enjoys dancing, writing for the paper, reading, and watching bad British television.

Hailing from Vancouver, Canada, Jeffrey is a member of the Stanford Class of 2013 and joined HOPES as a student researcher in April 2011. As a peculiar double major in Classics and Biology, he delights in the ancient tales of audacious conspiracies, erotic love, and heroic myth, all the while engaging in cutting edge laboratory research. Just as he enjoys the intellectually rewarding processes of deciphering archaic languages and understanding pathological mechanisms, he hopes to employ the same translational mindset in simplifying and condensing scientific material to enhance accessibility for the HD community he has grown to deeply respect. In his spare time, Jeffrey likes throwing pots (the ceramic kind), watching animal videos, and constantly reliving the fun and games of childhood.

Julia is a student researcher and member of the Stanford Class of 2013.  She plans to major in biology, possibly with honors. She’s very pleased to be working with HOPES as it combines her two loves of writing and of studying the nervous system, and she is considering a career in medicine later down the road.  Her other interests include listening to music, doing community service, reading fiction, attempting to write fiction, and doodling in her notebooks.

Hailing from Houston, Texas, Cindy is a Senior majoring in Biomechanical Engineering. Growing up in a small province in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam, she immigrated to the United States with her family in 2003. Cindy joined HOPES in April 2011 as a graphic designer out of the desire to learn more about how she can apply her engineering and design skills to helping patients with movement disorders. She is very grateful for the heartwarming exposure to the HD community HOPES has provided her. When she is not too busy being a workaholic, Cindy enjoys drinking tea, heartfelt conversations, reading, doing nonprofit work, and tinkering with things.

John is a junior majoring in Computer Science with an emphasis on Human Computer Interaction. As a webmaster for HOPES, he enjoys working on innovative ideas to help improve the content and accessibility of the website. He joined HOPES for the opportunity to make a difference and apply his skills to the challenge of making HOPES a helpful resource. One of his favorite part about being on the HOPES team is working with such a talented and passionate group of people.

Chelsey is a pre-medical junior majoring in Human Biology and a lover of books on the side. She joined HOPES as a student researcher in March 2012 with the desire to further her knowledge of medicine and writing. Having studied medical literature in the past, she hopes to put her research skills to use to further the efforts of HOPES to inform the public about Huntington’s Disease. In her all-too-fleeting spare time, Chelsey is outside shooting on the range with the Stanford Archery Team or tutoring middle school students in Palo Alto with Dreamcatchers. Occasionally, she even finds the time to eat at her favorite restaurant, Chipotle, or take long, luxurious naps.

Serenity is a junior majoring in Mechanical Engineering and joined HOPES as a Graphic Designer. She is interested in contributing to HOPES’ intellectual coffers concerning Huntington’s Disease and looks forward to utilizing her passion for design and art to do so. She enjoys music of the lowest fidelity and improving her vertical jump. One day she plans to move to Portland to manage a chain of off-brand micro-breweries.

Kristen (HasSuper) Powers is an enthusiastic member of the Class of 2016, trying to make her generation the last one with Huntington’s disease. After watching her mum struggle with the disease and facing her own at-risk status, Kristen set out to make a documentary called Twitch (twitchdocumentary.com) to highlight the challenges faced by those enduring Huntington’s disease and genetic testing. Thankfully, she tested negative and is now even more excited to have the chance to throw surprise birthday parties, meet cool people all over the world, and find her way out of Stanford’s Green Library. Fun Fact: She lives on a farm with 40 pets in North Carolina.

Iberia Zafira is an Earth Systems senior on the anthrosphere track. Iberia spent the past year studying design and management in Dubai, UAE and art and environmental policy in Paris, France. In Paris, one of her projects was designing publications for the European Commission’s EU EcoLabel and Green Public Procurement. She is very excited to work with HOPES this year!

Thrilled to be new to the HOPES team, Will is a sophomore and is enthusiastically dabbling in a variety of science classes. He is fascinated by pathology and physiology, but also just about anything else if he thinks about it long enough. In his free time he plays polo, paints, swims, drives barefoot on the twisting roads behind campus, or winds down on the porch. Currently, he is plotting how to keep a pet dog on campus and learning how to make a hammock. He considers himself, though somewhat arbitrarily, in a constant state of adventure.

A premed Communication major from the class of 2013, Stephanie has a penchant for pretty things, paddling dragonboats, pushing pixels, the printed word, procrastination, penguins, and photography. She joined HOPES because she loves science, loves websites, loves people, and loves writing. Relatedly, her main life goals are to become the next Dr. Sanjay Gupta, and to spread the gospel of bubble tea around the world. Stephanie also enjoys alliteration, collecting Stuff that Looks Like Other Stuff, snacking when she ought to be sleeping, making lists, tweeting excessively, watching unintellectual television, and speaking in third person.
