The directed migration of endothelial cells is an early and critical step in angiogenesis, or new blood vessel formation. The polarization and chemotaxis of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) is a critical step in this phenomenon. This is studied in a microfluidic device capable of simulating the natural tissue environment.
