Microelectrode arrays are useful for studying the electrical signals generated by groups of neurons. Microfluidic devices provide a greater level of control in cell behavior studies including control over cellular microenvironments as well as physical confinement from another set of cells. By merging these two technologies, we hope to study the electrical signaling between groups of distinct neural networks. Understanding the electrical signals produced in neuron signaling will improve the understanding of neural behavior.
