My project is biotemplating with clathrin, which is the major constituent of the 'coat' of the clathrin-coated pits and coated vesicles formed during endocytosis of materials at the surface of cells. This material has an interesting property to self-assemble in various structures depending on the environmental condition. The first goal of the project is to develop the phase diagram for clathrin assembly conditions based on pH, ionic strength, temperature, and clathrin concentration. The second goal is to grow inorganic materials over the clathrin structure for use in application to solar cells or batteries.
