We'll leave right after classes on Friday afternoon, and drive up to the Sierra Mountains and South Lake Tahoe Region. Friday night we will enjoy pizza and beverages at a local hangout, and camp at a fully stocked and domesticated campsite. Saturday morning after breakfast we head out to for our rafting adventure… Deep into Gold country, rippling through a wild, picturesque canyon in Auburn State Recreation Area, the American River offers class III-IV excitement interspersed with more soothing stretches of water.

After rafting, we go back to the campsite where you can head right for the showers (or for the fireside happy hour, if you have your priorities straight)! After a delicious dinner, join in the now infamous Saturday night party at the Coloma Club and get jiggy with the locals at this world famous beer garden and dance hall.

Wake up late Sunday and shake off the lingering cobwebs of the also-infamous Coloma Club hangover, we'll spend the morning cooking up a huge backcountry breakfast before heading back to campus.

In the evenings, we'll build campfires, get to know new classmates, and sleep under the stars (tents and sleeping bags will be provided for you). While other OA trips subsist on twigs and berries, we'll eat like royalty with the gourmet meals cooked up by the outfitter and your dedicated, decorated, and inebriated leaders. If you're craving a wild and exciting time to start off your stay at the GSB, then this is the trip for you.

Difficulty Level: Moderate - you will be on a raft most of the day on Saturday with a group of fellow classmates and a guide.  You will have a life jacket, but will want to know how to swim in case you fall into the river.

Cost: $350, all inclusive (sorry this is a bit pricey, but Stanford requires extra insurance).
