Gettin' Dirty on the Farm

Get your hands dirty picking vegetables; learn about organic farming and local foods; and bond with your classmates.

dave farming...sustainably

This trip will bring a group to Singing Frogs Farm in beautiful Sebastopol, Sonoma County. Hosts Paul, Elizabeth, and their little boy Lucas will graciously have us at their place for the weekend.  We will drive out to the farm on Friday and camp in tents in the Enchanted Bamboo Forest or the Redwood Grove. On Saturday, we’ll help out at the farm (planting, harvesting, or weeding) and learn about sustainable agriculture. In the afternoon, we’ll hike a nearby trail or hang out on the beach. We will cook a delicious local meal for dinner on the grill and camp stoves, followed by s’mores and fireside activities to really get to know each other. On Sunday, we’ll fill up for breakfast and get you safely back to campus midday.

If you don’t have your own camping gear (tents or sleeping bags), please ask around to borrow some, or we can rent for you (rental price included).

Throughout the trip, we will share tips on how to live sustainably at the GSB: secrets on where to buy local, organic produce around Stanford, the deal behind those potato forks in Arbuckle, and tips for getting everywhere you need on bike.

Questions: feel free to contact Dave Rottblatt or Emma Wendt if you have any follow-up questions.

Difficulty Level: all fitness levels are welcome.

Cost: $87
