PhD Officers

The PhD Association constitution contains an overview of the organisation. This page details the specific roles of officers.

All officers are required to attend a Party Planning Workshop organized by the Stanford Office of Student Activities.

President

The president is primarily responsible for administrative functions and acts as a liaison between students and the doctoral program office/faculty and the university. Duties include:

  1. Registering the PhD Association with the University at the Office of Student Activities (OSA) [early Fall].
  2. PhD Faculty Distinguished Service Award: solicit nominations, organize committee to vote, and plan award ceremony [Spring].
  3. Meet with other association officers periodically to discuss budget, activities, etc.
  4. Meet with faculty/administration periodically as a student representative.

Vice-President

The vice-president is primarily responsible for new student orientation and elections.

  1. Pre-Orientation activities [week before classes begin in the Fall]
  2. Orientation Weekend
  3. Elections for the PhD Association in spring quarter.
  4. Maintain the PhD Association Web page.
  5. Serve as safety coordinator.

Secretary

The secretary has primarily administrative responsibilities.

  1. Office Assignments/Lottery and Office Keys [late Summer]
  2. Vending Machine in PhD Lounge
  3. Copy Card Liason:
  4. Library Liason: handling complaints or requests and directing them to Paul Reist in the library.
  5. Office Phones: phones are free now, so this job should not require much more than simply handling complaints.
  6. Black Mountain Water: handle orders and complaints, send bills to Treasurer. Periodically clean out the green slime that accumulates in the water reservior.

Treasurer

The treasurer is the primary financial officer for the association.

  1. Manage both the ASSU bank account and our SFCU account.
  2. Payment of bills for vending machine, copiers, water.
  3. Handling reimbursements to students for association-related expenses.

Social Chair

The social chair organizes student gatherings and athlethic events.

  1. Organizing social events for other students, approximately once a quarter (in the past these have included nights out at local bars, bbq's, and parties).
