We're going to be moving to the GSB Knight Center next quarter! The move date has been set for April 15th. We know it may be a little inconvenient for some of you (especially 5th years), but we have no say in the matter. In any case the move is inevitable and for sure it's going to be for the best.
Therefore, we will be holding an office lottery on April 7, 2011 at 5pm, location TBD.Here are some of the important things to consider:
To have consistency with this years lottery, we will have the same priority issued at the beginning of the academic year. Given the open nature of the new office spaces, students will not be allowed pair up and do block bidding.
Given that there is relatively little information as to how the new building dynamics will be and considering graduating students still need a place to work before they leave, we will have another move before the start of the academic year of 2011. This will give students the option to change location if they don't feel comfortable in their spot. This will also mean a different priority draw, in accordance to how we have always run the lottery. Note: students not in year 5 will still have the option to squat following the initial move.
Take a look at the attached floor plans:
Other general rules can be found in the general lottery guidelines.
This is of extreme importance! If one area does not have a "significant" (word used in a rather lose fashion) number of students we run the risk of losing it. The PhD office has been very active to maintain all of these areas for us. Apparently, other GSB groups have show interest in some of them. Since it is the first move (in a way) it will determine the PhD space in the future, thus it is paramount that we are able to keep all of the allocated areas. We will not "force" anyone to move if an area is not filled, but we please ask you to keep this in mind when deciding which space to take. Though, we do not believe this will be an issue, since the smaller areas seem like the more attractive ones....but just to keep in mind.
That's the info for now. If you have any questions please write to me or any other member of the PhD association. We will be happy to help in any way we can. Take a look at the plans and start thinking what might suit you. We'll be giving out more relevant info soon....
