The Stanford German Student Association (SGSA), in cooperation with the Program in Ethics in Society (EIS), present
The documentary "Dreams of a City"
and subsequent discussion with its creator Michael Levin
--- Free pizza and refreshments will be available. ---
Even though we work or study here at Stanford and many of us live in Palo Alto or on campus, lots of us know very little about East Palo Alto, our immediate neighbors accross the Highway 101. The documentary "Dreams of a City" will introduce us to East Palo Alto by giving a compelling and comprehensive socio-historic account of the city. It focuses on the ethnic diversity encountered in EPA today and looks at the struggles, challenges and opportunities arising from this diversity.
Michael Levin is currently the administrator of http://epa.net, the Online Community Resource Center. He is an authority on the history of East Palo Alto and has been a long-time video historian of that neighborhood.
After screening the documentary (~55min), Michael Levin will give an account of what has changed since the movie was made in 1997 and then we will open it up for Q&A. Since space is limited, please RSVP to fschmitt@stanford.edu. Participation will be assigned on a first-come-first-serve basis. We encourage that you also mention other topics or questions you would like to discuss with Michael Levin or you would like him to talk about.
The event will take place Tuesday, April 22nd, between 6pm and 8pm, in building 50, room 52E, located in the Stanford University Main Quad.
