The Deutsche Bahn AG, in collaboration with the Stanford German Student Association and the German Scholars Organization, present a coffee talk, with the title

The German Rail Turnaround

How Deutsche Bahn (DB) has become a successful provider of international mobility and logistics solutions and how DB wants to operate the transportation networks of the future.

Dr. Matthias Afting is looking forward to giving a brief presentation, offering first-hand insight into the workings of DB group and how it shaped the German transportation infrasctructure. Subsequently, he would like to encourage a vivid and open discussion. (Dr. Afting will also be glad to give information about career opportunities within the DB group.)

Dr. Afting studied Medicine at the University of Saarland and Universite Rene Descartes from 1989 to 1996. He served as an intern at the Hospital of Freiburg University in the department of Haematology and Oncology for the following two years, after which he joined the Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA as a research fellow. In 2000, he joined McKinsey & Co as a consultant. He has been a member of the global human resources leadership team for the Deutsche Bahn AG since 2006.

The talk will take place in the Back Lounge of the Bechtel International Center (map) on Thursday, February 28th, 12:45 pm and will last one hour. Join us for a lively discussion directly after your lunch on campus and enjoy some free german pastries, cakes and coffee. Please RSVP to fschmitt@stanford.edu since space is limited.
