Jeanette Jenkins
Jeanette ('"JJ") moved to California from Missouri in 1969. She graduated from Overfelt High School in 1970 and received a Cosmetology degree from Laney College in 1972. Instead of following her passion for the glamor world, she decided to take a position at Intel Corporation in their production control area. After serving in the corporate world for many years, most recently at Credence Systems, JJ has been working at the Clayman Institute since November 2006. Says JJ, "I'm very excited and honored to be a part of the Clayman Gender Research Team."
Away from work, JJ tends to be very social, and loves spending time with friends and family. She has volunteered at the Casa de Mesa Nursing Home. "I love spending time with the elderly," says JJ. "This is where my passion for glamor is also enjoyed. I've taken the ladies make-up, nail polish, jewelry, and fancy clothes that I've gathered from here and there. It's very rewarding for me seeing their faces light up with excitement as we empty the goody bags."
At the Institute, JJ provides general administrative support for the whole staff team. She helps the Research Team manage their data files, works as Serra House's receptionist, and has particular responsibility for managing Professor Schiebinger's calendar.
