The Graduate Dissertation Fellows Program Call for Applications

 

Purpose: To encourage interdisciplinary connections among scholars engaged in research on women and/or gender across Stanford's many academic departments; to encourage the next generation of feminist scholars; and to encourage advanced graduate students to engage in the intellectual life of the Institute.
Eligibility: All Ph.D. candidates (males and females) from any academic discipline currently enrolled in one of Stanford's Ph.D. programs who have completed all requirements for the degree except the final dissertation. The research must focus on issues of women and/or gender. Applicants must be enrolled during the Autumn, Winter, and Spring Quarters of the fellowship year. Applicants are expected to be Graduate Affiliates of the Institute.
Award: Seven awards of $7000 each will be made for the academic year 2008-2009.
Exclusions: Previous holders of fellowships are not eligible to apply.
Applications: Applicants are required to submit four complete application packets for review by the selection committee, including:
  • The completed application cover sheet
  • Curriculum vitae of no more than 2 pages
  • A 2-3 page statement, single-spaced, including all notes and references, a time-line for completion of the degree, and covering the following:

    1. Summary of dissertation research
    2. How current work is related to issues of women and/or gender
    3. Description of other research interests, especially those that cross traditional disciplinary boundaries
  • A current transcript (copy accepted)
  • Two letters of recommendation by Stanford faculty evaluating the quality of the research project and its successful and timely completion. One must be from the principal dissertation advisor. Letters should be confidential and sent directly to the Institute.


Only complete applications will be considered; other supporting papers will not be reviewed. Applications can be mailed or delivered to Serra House.
