French-American Friendship Celebration
October 17-18th, 2005

On Monday October 17th 2005 evening, thirty-nine persons gathered to listen to Christine Suppes, Editor-in-Chief of the fashion magazine Fashionlines. She looked at the importance of French fashion from the court of Louis XIV up to the global brands such as Chanel, Dior and Louis Vuitton.
On Tuesday October 18th, a dinner mixing French and American flavors was prepared by Chef Philippe Bressolier. In addition to a tasteful meal, 60 members of the Stanford community from various horizons had the chance to come together and discover a bit more the local interactions - past, present and future - between French and Americans.
Both events were attended not only by French and Americans but also by international members of the Stanford community. As an example, one table of six at the dinner consisted of five postdoctoral researchers and one graduate student from the following countries: France, USA, Thailand, Belgium, Germany and Spain. We were also lucky to have an American veteran of World War II who attended the dinner and exhibited some of his recent paintings.
