Originally from San Diego, Veronica began dancing folklórico at the age of 10. She danced with BFdeS her four years at Stanford and served as co-chair for two years. She was fortunate to meet incredible friends who remain near and dear to her, especially her awesome twin/roommate/co-worker/Lupeños partner-in-crime, Krysti! Veronica would like to give special thanks to Tania and Lupe for being the cool BFdeS seniors her freshman year who continue to share her folklórico nerdiness; to Liz Aguilar for being her partner-in-crime for life; and to all the members of BFdeS who were freshmen when she co-chaired and put up with her stress! She continues to work for Stanford ECHALE, a clinical research study using ethnic dance, primarily (you guessed it) Mexican folklórico, to combat pediatric obesity and related illnesses in at-risk Latina youth. Veronica has gotten her folklórico fix dancing with Los Lupeños de San Jose, a semi-professional performing dance company founded in 1969. Along with other members of the group, she had the opportunity to perform in San Jose and San Bernardino in 2007 with Linda Ronstadt, Mariachi Cobre, Tlen-Huicani, Los Lobos, and Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano. Veronica has also returned to BFdeS as an alum to teach and is proud of the group's continued success! After one more year with Stanford ECHALE, Veronica hopes to begin medical school in the Fall of 2009. You can bet she will be dancing her heart (and knees) out before she trades in her dance shoes for a white coat.
