Ashoka Fellow + D.light on May 1st!
May 1, 6pm: Speaker event (D.light), need publicity for it. We're hosting dinner.
Biodiesel Discussion/Forum?
Aim for the week of the 21st of May, have a forum discussion, and limit it to 25 people or so.
- Biodiesel issues, contact Jacobsen
- Other contacts:
- David Victor
- Roz Naylor
- Bill Jones (pres. Pacific Ethanol Corporation)
- Phil Kinsington
- Chris Somerville
- Amory Lovins
Possible options for
Estimate interest of 50-70 people base on the previous biodiesel seminar.
We discussed having a roundtable dicussion/ socratic seminar between students and faculty involving dinnenr as well. Maybe 3 faculty and several students can ask questions in an informal setting. As opposed to having a forum where panelists were asked questions by the students
ASSU GreenFest Activities
Sunday 4/29, 4pm Between Thorton and the pond near Terman Civil Engineering Greenfest: Demo of water filtration. (Using P&G packets for water purification) we can get dirty looking water and use the P&G. For slow sand filter, Max has gravel and sand for a slow sand filter. We can use spare aquariums in civil engineering basement for the sand filter. COME HELP US BUILD!!
Guatemala Water Filtration Project
Tom Abeles has a project to give away 5000 water filters in Guatemala and wants ESW help with design of the filter and expansion of the filter to tap water systems that exist in Guatemala, and analyze the failure rate of filters in the field, social health knowledge to communities about the importance and use of clean water.
- Heather: Important that his expectations for the group are realistic: does he know we're a student group, and that we've never dealt with amounts in the 100k range. If we're going to do this, it would require a multi-quarter commitment, perhaps for a team of 6-10(+) people operating over the summer and into the next school year.
- Jennifer: We need to know who we're helping: what's his plan for distribution of these filters, is he selling them? Is this a business? What can we contribute from afar, not too much about things like how people are using the filters.
Can we get a faculty sponsor for this? Is Karim the best person to talk to him (despite his general swampedness)?
ESW-sponsored Travel
Adobe Conference: We'll be sending applicant to the conference.
