Summer 2007 - Earthquake Safety of Vernacular Housing in the Himalayas

Engineers for a Sustainable World Stanford sent 2 interns to the Indian Himalayas this summer to work with SEEDS, an Indian-based NGO focused on disaster relief and mitigation, to research historic seismic design technologies, analyze existing buildings, and disseminate the technology and knowledge to the local people.

Veronica Cedillos

Veronica is currently pursuing a MS in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis at Stanford. Veronica completed her bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering at MIT and worked as a structural engineer in New York prior to graduate school. Veronica has traveled extensively in Europe and Mexico. She is looking forward to this internship as a way to launch her engineering career down a humanitarian path.

Engin Ayaz

Engin recently graduated from Stanford with a BS in Civil Engineering, Structures and Construction track. He has also studied architectural design via a summer program at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. He has been a key member of the Stanford Green Dorm Project and is a LEED Accredited Professional for Green Building Design. He recently was awarded a Merage American Dream Fellowship to pursue a self-designed project involving research and work on the built environment around the globe. The internship will help launch him down his path toward becoming a leader in sustainable architecture.
