- Bibliography
due (post in your Forum folder) |
 |
| Your
bibliography should contain at least 8 citation, each with a sentence
long annotation, in proper MLA format. Post your bibliography
to your Forum folder. |
- What
is the assignment?
- Over
the past few weeks, you have been busy accumulating sources for your
research project. For this assignment, you should generate a list,
in proper MLA format, of at least 8 sources that you have been working
with so far. Note: Ultimately, you will need
to work with 10 sources for this project, 8 of which you must have
found on your own (that is,they cannot have been readings completed
as assignments for this class).
- Why
are we doing this?
- This
assignment asks you list the sources that you've found so far for
your research project. The goal is to help you organize your information,
spot holes in your research, and share some of the research that you
have completed for your project.
- What
exactly should the bibliography contain?
- The bibliography should
list a minimum of 8 sources in MLA format. Each citation
should be followed by a one (full) sentence annotation
that summarizes the content, argument, and/or importance of the source.
The sources themselves may represent a mix of primary and secondary
material, electronic and paper media, and academic and popular culture
sources. However, the overall impression of the bibliography should
be one of balance: there should be a healthy mixture of these
sources, not a dominance of one type of article or text (for instance,
if you're writing on Blogging, your bibliography should not just be
a list of primary source blog pages).
-
- In addition, at
the bottom, you should list three search methods you used
for generating your bibliography -- i.e. Socrates, LexisNexis, Google,
etc. If you find that you only list one type of search mechanism,
that's probably a sign you should branch out.
- How
do I figure out MLA form?
- If you don't own the
MLA Handbook for the Writers of Research Papers, you can
borrow one from a classmate or look on-line for help at sites like
Humanities:
Documenting Sources (Diane Hacker's comprehensive
overview to how to properly cite sources in humanities papers) and
Using
MLA Format, a page created
by Purdue's online writing
lab.
