Co-Sponsorship Email Thread (note: These notes represent things people suggested, not necessarily a consensus in the group)

• Should we co-sponsor other groups to form an activist community?
• Pro: Marginalized groups have a lot of things in common—systems of oppression are similar
• But, we only seem to be building a coalition with STAMP
• Con: Sponsoring a politically charged event can alienate people
• We need a degree of transparency in our co-sponsorships so that we are clear that we are not only sponsoring STAMP because of our relationship with them
• Possibly get potential sponsors to come a week before to ask for money so we can discuss without them there
• Question:  Was Emma Goldman founded with a political agenda in mind?
  • Should Emma Goldman’s affiliations with other groups depend on who is in it during that particular year?
• Maybe we should not align ourselves with political causes that do not have to do with queer rights—keep in mind potential alienation
• Proposal: Tuesday we think through our issues and our values and talk about how to make good policies
• How can we make it clear why we are sponsoring something?  On email list, write a few sentences before e-flyer explaining
• How can we deal with people who want to vote but can’t be present at meeting?
