Clergy & Student Leadership

The Rev. Greg Schaefer is a California native, having grown up right here in the Bay Area on a cattle ranch in the East Bay. A Lutheran pastor, he comes to Stanford after serving as seminary pastor at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley (isn't there a University over there?). Before that, Pastor Greg was a graduate student at the Graduate Theological Union, studying religion and psychology. Pastoral Care is a real passion of his, so feel free to come by for a chat whenever you'd like. High on his list of theological pursuits is the integration of mind and soul: Can faith also be an academic experience? Doesn't our logic and knowledge of the universe need to inform what we understand about God? Besides such lofty things, he loves golf, hiking, sailing, flying, cooking (and eating) Spanish food, traveling, horseback riding, and spending time with his wife, Gwen . . . not necessarily in that order! Contact PG at PrGreg@stanford.edu.

The Rev. Corrie Lassen is ELCM's Interim Episcopal Campus Minister. A Penn alumna, she was baptized and became an Episcopalian while a student there. She's also a student now, working on a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting at the San Francisco Art Institute. Pr. Corrie was raised Unitarian, and was married to a Buddhist for a long time, so she is comfortable with many religious perspectives. Having been a priest for over twenty years, she has served in a variety of ministries, including college and hospital chaplaincy, diocesan ministry, and parish ministry, living on both coasts. Listening and mentoring are some of her strengths and she enjoys thinking about and wrestling with important questions, especially those related to the direction of life, our relationship with God, and how we make decisions. Pr. Corrie says, "I always seem to be able to see many sides of a question, and I am as interested in the questions as I am in the answers." You can reach her at coryl@stanford.edu.

ELCM President Christina Hall is a senior majoring in physics. She is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and moved to the Bay Area six years ago to dance with the Ballet San Jose before starting at Stanford. She still dances whenever she finds a chance but also enjoys branching out to other activities like learning how to sail, playing golf and remembering how to ski. Her email is clhall@stanford.edu.

Mariaelena Gonzalez is a Ph.D. student in sociology. She is originally from Avery, CA, a small town in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. She enjoys gaming (particularly board games) and science fiction. Mariaelena is the ELCM treasurer. Reach her at symbol@stanford.edu.
Erik Donhowe is ELCM's webmaster. A sophomore at Stanford, Erik is majoring in Chemical Engineering with plans to go into Food Science. In his free time he is 13/16 Norwegian and eschews the dangerous chore of vacuuming. Contact him at norsed@stanford.edu.
