Abstract

Comments on the article by Walker et al. (see record 2006-05999-011), who examined the relationship of cognitive-perceptual determinants from the Health Promotion Model to physical activity and healthy eating at baseline of a clinical trial among rural women aged 50 to 69. The current authors comment on several problems with reactive recruitment strategies and note the strengths of the study. Walker et al. are commended for their use of proactive recruitment, with the potential for generalization beyond the study sample, and for designing an intervention to address both physical activity and dietary behavior.
