Design Thinking Boot Camp: From Insights to Innovation offers executives the chance to learn design thinking - a human-centered, prototype-driven process for innovation that can be applied to product, service, and business design. We believe that innovation is necessary in every aspect of business, and that it can be taught. We invite you to join us here at the d.school for an experience that will enhance your ability to drive innovation in your organization.
The d.school design thinking process is user-centered and prototype-driven. As a participant in Design Thinking Boot Camp, you will be part of a small multidisciplinary team and work through a hands-on innovation challenge from start to finish. You will walk away from the workshop with a strong understanding of the key tenets of design thinking and be able to execute them at home.
Our approach is to learn by doing. Your work will be done at the Stanford d.school. Our customized studio space fosters radical collaboration and allows participants to tackle big projects for innovative outcomes.
To help you translate the design thinking process to your workplace, you will take home a guide that outlines the tools and methods taught during the Boot Camp.
This program is designed for executives who are responsible for tackling strategic challenges in their organizations. People who are responsible for offerings that are developed for the marketplace, as well as those developed for internal constituencies, are invited to apply for the Design Thinking Boot Camp. We also welcome members of a team to apply for participation in the workshop together (please submit individual applications, footnoted with the collective names of the team members).
Appropriate participant titles include Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Chief of Insights, Director of Research & Development, and Vice President of Product Management.
During the three-day program, you will work in teams of four to five people, guided by an embedded coach. All of our coaches are d.school faculty who have masters degrees or PhDs, in addition to extensive experience using design thinking in industry. The lead faculty members of the Design Thinking Boot Camp are George Kembel, Perry Klebahn, and Diego Rodriguez. You can learn more about our people and what makes them tick at: www.stanford.edu/group/dschool/people/team.html
Each day, you will start with breakfast at the d.school at 7:30 or 8:00am, work hard all day, and finish around 5:00pm. We will not assign any homework, but in the past, participants have been so excited by their project work that they have not been able to sleep through the night - so, we can't promise a restful week.
You will have access to diverse d.school faculty throughout the workshop and will have the chance to tap into the design thinking expertise of the entire staff. On the last day, the faculty will collaborate with you to prepare you to apply design thinking to the particular business challenges at your home institution.
The application deadline for this program is June 6, 2008.
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Preference will be given to early applications.
