d.school Lead Administrator
Charlie comes to the d.school after 6 years in ME Design at Stanford. Her background includes a degree in Retailing and Design from Carnegie Mellon University. She began her interest in this field as a child when she designed her doll clothes and constructed them using her grandmother’s hand crank sewing machine (which is still a treasure!). As a teenager, she made nearly all her own clothes, including formal dresses.
She was a “full time” mom while raising 2 sons, who are now grown and living in Colorado where they design and fabricate parts for extreme off road vehicles. While they were growing up, Charlie was an active volunteer in their schools and Boy Scout troop. She and her husband participated with a small group of Scouts to an international Jamborette on the grounds of a castle in the highlands of Scotland.
Charlie loves to travel. Trips to Colorado and spending time with her sons tops the list. She enjoys traveling by train - a ride on the California Zephyr to CO at Christmastime was great fun- and an Alaska Railroad adventure with stops in Fairbanks, Denali, Anchorage and Seward was unforgettable. She also enjoys flying in a small plane with her husband as the pilot.
Charlie is delighted to be part of the d.school, which she envisions as a magnet attracting curious, exploring students and faculty to design thinking.
