Forensic Drupal Debugging

If you've ever worked with or written any template files or modules, chances are you've you've encountered a blank screen (white screen of death or WSoD) or just can't seem to figure out why that "print $object;" statement is not outputting what you expected (or anything for that matter).

This session will cover some basic debugging techniques that will help you find clues and isolate issues with Drupal and/or your code, and help you restore order to your site and your sanity.

We'll cover the following in this session:

  1. Basic Principles: what are the clues
  2. Drupal UI Configuration
  3. White Screen of Death (WSOD)
  4. Debugging with Themer/Devel
  5. Where to go fro additional help
  6. Q&A Session

We won't be covering any of the following:

  1. Javascript bugs
  2. HTML/CSS bugs
  3. Using a tool with breakpoints to step through code execution
  4. Performance debugging
  5. Anything not mentioned above
