Officers 2007-2008

Violetta Taing, '08
Member (06-) Captain (07-)
I don't have much to say...it's all in my facial expressions.

Stefan Vraspir, '09
Member (06-) Captain (07-)
The white guy on the team, Stefan is a Product Design major originally from Seattle. He enjoys paddling boats of all shapes and sizes, making noises, and being gangly. He is also excited to be producing Gaieties 2007, an extravaganza so extravagant you might need to bring a change of clothes. Like Sea World, except better. And minus Shamu.

Hoameng Ung, '10
Member, Webmaster (06-)
From Long Beach, CA. When he is not astonishing others with his complete and utter brilliance or terrifying the seas with his vast fleet of make-belief dragonboats, he likes to play soft and gentle music on his air guitar.

David Yu, '09
Financial Officer, Member (05-)
David is a junior from Bellevue, WA and he studies Computer Science. He likes to listen to cpop music, skiing, eating good food, and to daydream. David picked up dragonboating at Stanford and has kept paddling since. He does not know why he likes it so much, but he does.

Bryan studies Molecular Biology while he's not rowing/splashing furiously in the monstrous canoe-like thingy. He's lived in Oklahoma, LA, Taipei, Seattle, NY, Princeton, and SF--though not at the same time. He probably acts like the youngest out of all the professional and skilled rowers on the team, but is actually among the oldest/wisest. Some argue Bryan is stuck in a 12 yr old body, while Bryan would argue that he's stuck in a very mature and developed 12 yr old body thank you very much. :P He's truly grateful to be part of such a wonderful team with such awesome teammates. As a result, he has decided to pass up on the pro dragonboat draft and forgo the glamourous and glizty lifestyle of a professional dragonboater.
LeAnn Duong, '08
Member (06-)
A native of sunny Fremont, CA, LeAnn is majoring in Classes That Don't Meet on Fridays. She likes boating, sun, uncontrollable laughter, good food, good friends, and good times. Preferably all at once.

Mao Vang, '08

Senior from Lompoc, CA majoring in Art Studio. Interested in photography, graphic design and driving stick. When I'm not dragonboating, I'm usually eating pho, taking photos, watching "Friends" or crashing into something (usually the ground).

Coaches   2007-2008

Preston Chui, 2nd year Grad Student
Member (05-)
Electrical Engineering major from Vancouver, Canada -- home of the Alcan Dragon Boat Festival, the oldest and largest DB festival in North America! Can anybody say "road trip?"
Wendy Leung
3rd year Paddler
2nd year CDBA certified steersperson
I love the water and I think Dragon boating rocks!
Mike Liu
Because of butterfly effects from El Niño and despite having the ferocious metabolism of a nine-year-old, Mike Liu's passage within the dragon boat realm accelerated into taking on a paddler/coach role. His exhortation as one of Stanford's coaches: "Be an under(water)achiever." He believes that training hard, and on race day being mentally unbreakable and paddling as effectively as one did the preparation for, is fun. Liu has competed as part of Dragon Warriors and Stanford in Canada, China, Malaysia, the Peninsula, San Francisco, and the East Bay. Those races include Club Crew World championships and California Dragon Boat Association's pre-eminent western United States festival held at Treasure Island.

Some of the innovations and expansion of the dragon boat body of knowledge by Liu include multitasking stretching, focus-10, pull explosion, tetherball analogies, inalienable stroke rights ... and stories of other people's stories that are TMI. He hopes to in the future--or should he ever be fired from a coaching position--land a job as a dragon boat analyst on ESPN 8 (the "Ocho"/"Ba Hao").

Liu's cross-training activities include cycling and boxing. He opines that Yul Kwon demonstrated decent paddling form in Survivor: Cook Islands.

The above information is believed to be mostly true, but is not guaranteed. Mike Liu reserves the right to call a focus-10 from the crew at any time.
Ray Thng
Ray knows a bunch of people from Stanford Cashu Ramen at Santa Ramen. Cod Fillet and Cream of Corn at Broadway Cafe. Abbot's Habbit at Erik's Deli. Three Mushrooms Noodle at Shanghai East. Masala Dosa at Saravanaa Bhavan. Ayam Kalasan at Borobudur. Duck Fried Rice at Bangkok. Chicken Kofta at Shalimar. Salmon Toro at Hamano.
