The Stanford Vintage Dance Ensemble, directed by Richard Powers, performs social dances from the 19th and early twentieth centuries, from the Victorian to the Ragtime and Swing eras. The 32-member Ensemble performs at the Viennese and Ragtime Balls, at various local venues, and a smaller contingent has performed at the Smithsonian Institution, in Japan, Paris, Prague, and St. Petersburg.
In the 1999-2000 academic year, the Stanford Vintage Dance Ensemble will be focusing on dances and traditions of the Ragtime Era, as well as a selection of dances from other times and countries.
We meet every Tuesday at the Roble Dance Studio and rehearse from 8pm to about 10.30pm. Auditions will be held at the beginning of Fall Quarter next year.
