<h3>Abstract:</h3> <p>Summary: "Today's youth live in the interface of the local and the global. Research is documenting how a world youth culture is developing, how global migration is impacting youth, how global capitalism is changing their economic and vocational futures, and how computer-mediated communication with the world is changing the literacy needs and identities of students. This book explores the dynamic range of literacy practices that are reconstructing gender identities in both empowering and disempowering ways and the implications for local literacy classrooms. As gendered identities become less essentialist, are more often created in virtual settings, and are increasingly globalized, literacy educators need to understand these changes in order to effectively educate their students. The volume is organized around three themes: gender influences and identities in literacy and literature; gender influences in new literacies practices; and gender and literacy issues and policies. The contributing authors, from North America, Europe, and Australia offer an international perspective on literacy issues and practices. This volume is an important contribution to understanding the impact of the local and the global on how today's youth are represented and positioned in literacy practices and polices within the context of 21st century global/cosmopolitan life"-- Provided by publisher.</p> <h3>Publication Language: </h3><p>eng</p> <ul class="biblio-export-buttons"><li>Export As:</li><li> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/export/tagged/" title="Click to download the EndNote Tagged formatted file">Tagged</a></li><li> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/export/xml/" title="Click to download the XML formatted file">XML</a></li><li> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/export/bibtex/" title="Click to download the BibTEX formatted file">BibTex</a></li><li> <a href="http://scholar.google.com/scholar?btnG=Search%2BScholar&amp;as_q=%22%22&amp;as_sauthors=&amp;as_occt=any&amp;as_epq=&amp;as_oq=&amp;as_eq=&amp;as_publication=&amp;as_ylo=&amp;as_yhi=&amp;as_sdtAAP=1&amp;as_sdtp=1" title="Click to search Google Scholar for this entry">Google Scholar</a></li></ul> Gender Literacy Fri, 26 Apr 2013 23:17:14 +0000 kkerns 27343 at https://www.stanford.edu/group/cubberley African American males and education : researching the convergence of race and identity https://www.stanford.edu/group/cubberley/content/african-american-males-and-education-researching-convergence-race-and-identity <div class="field field-type-text field-field-biblio-featured-queue"> <h3 class="field-label">Featured Queue:&nbsp;</h3> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't Queue </div> </div> </div> <span class="Z3988" title="ctx_ver=Z39.88-2004&amp;rft_val_fmt=info%3Aofi%2Ffmt%3Akev%3Amtx%3Abook&amp;rft.title=African+American+males+and+education+%3A+researching+the+convergence+of+race+and+identity&amp;rft.btitle=Contemporary+perspectives+on+race+and+ethnic+relations&amp;rft.isbn=9781617359415+%28pbk.%29&amp;rft.date=2012&amp;rft.tpages=208&amp;rft.aulast=Dancy&amp;rft.aufirst=Elon&amp;rft.pub=Information+Age+Pub.&amp;rft.place=Charlotte%2C+N.C."></span><div class="biblio_type"><h3>Publication Type:</h3> Book</div> <div class="biblio_authors"><h3>Authors:</h3> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/author/16627">Dancy,T. assumptions that gender and sexual equality has been achieved in many Western contexts, but that feminism has gone 'too far' with women and girls now overtaking men and boys - positioned as the new victims of gender transformations. The book is the first to outline and critique how educational discourses have directly fed into postfeminist anxieties, exploring three postfeminist panics over girls and girlhood that circulate widely in the international media and popular culture. First it explores how a masculinity crisis over failing boys in school has spawned a backlash discourse about overly successful girls; second it looks at how widespread anxieties over girls becoming excessively mean and/or violent have positioned female aggression as pathological; third it examines how incessant concerns over controlling risky female sexuality underpin recent sexualisation of girls moral panics. The book outlines how these postfeminist panics over girlhood have influenced educational policies and practices in areas such as academic achievement, anti-bullying strategies and sex-education curriculum, making visible the new postfeminist, sexual politics of schooling. Moving beyond media or policy critique, however, this book offers new theoretical and methodological tools for researching postfeminism, girlhood and education. It engages with current theoretical debates over possibilities for girls' agency and empowerment in postfeminist, neo-liberal contexts of sexual regulation. It also elaborates new psychosocial and feminist Deleuzian methodological approaches for mapping subjectivity, affectivity and social change"-- Provided by publisher.</p> <h3>Publication Language: </h3><p>eng</p> <ul class="biblio-export-buttons"><li>Export As:</li><li> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/export/tagged/" title="Click to download the EndNote Tagged formatted file">Tagged</a></li><li> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/export/xml/" title="Click to download the XML formatted file">XML</a></li><li> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/export/bibtex/" title="Click to download the BibTEX formatted file">BibTex</a></li><li> <a href="http://scholar.google.com/scholar?btnG=Search%2BScholar&amp;as_q=%22%22&amp;as_sauthors=&amp;as_occt=any&amp;as_epq=&amp;as_oq=&amp;as_eq=&amp;as_publication=&amp;as_ylo=&amp;as_yhi=&amp;as_sdtAAP=1&amp;as_sdtp=1" title="Click to search Google Scholar for this entry">Google Scholar</a></li></ul> Discrimination and Equal Education Gender Thu, 13 Dec 2012 00:26:11 +0000 kkerns 25705 at https://www.stanford.edu/group/cubberley Democracy's angels : the work of women teachers https://www.stanford.edu/group/cubberley/content/democracys-angels-work-women-teachers <div class="field field-type-text field-field-biblio-featured-queue"> <h3 class="field-label">Featured Queue:&nbsp;</h3> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't Queue </div> </div> </div> <span class="Z3988" title="ctx_ver=Z39.88-2004&amp;rft_val_fmt=info%3Aofi%2Ffmt%3Akev%3Amtx%3Abook&amp;rft.title=Democracy%26%23039%3Bs+angels+%3A+the+work+of+women+teachers&amp;rft.isbn=0773540369+%28bound%29&amp;rft.date=2012&amp;rft.tpages=207&amp;rft.aulast=Llewellyn&amp;rft.aufirst=Kristina&amp;rft.pub=McGill-Queen%26%23039%3Bs+University+Press&amp;rft.place=Montreal%2C+QC"></span><div class="biblio_type"><h3>Publication Type:</h3> Book</div> <div class="biblio_authors"><h3>Authors:</h3> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/author/26159">Llewellyn,Kristina R.</a></div> <div class="biblio_source"><h3>Source: </h3> McGill-Queen&#039;s University Press, Montreal, QC, p.207 (2012)</div> <h3>Call Number:</h3> <a href="/group/cubberley/stacks/lc%3Fsize%3Dscreen">Cubb LC191.8 .C2 L64 2012</a> <h3>URL:</h3><a href="http://searchworks.stanford.edu/view/9731793">http://searchworks.stanford.edu/view/9731793</a> <h3>Keywords:</h3> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/keyword/34153">Democracy and education--Canada--History--20th century</a>, <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/keyword/34157">Education--Social aspects--Canada--History--20th century</a>, <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/keyword/34155">Gender identity in education--Canada--History--20th century</a>, <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/keyword/34151">Women teachers--Canada--History--20th century</a> <h3>Publication Language: </h3><p>eng</p> <ul class="biblio-export-buttons"><li>Export As:</li><li> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/export/tagged/" title="Click to download the EndNote Tagged formatted file">Tagged</a></li><li> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/export/xml/" title="Click to download the XML formatted file">XML</a></li><li> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/export/bibtex/" title="Click to download the BibTEX formatted file">BibTex</a></li><li> <a href="http://scholar.google.com/scholar?btnG=Search%2BScholar&amp;as_q=%22%22&amp;as_sauthors=&amp;as_occt=any&amp;as_epq=&amp;as_oq=&amp;as_eq=&amp;as_publication=&amp;as_ylo=&amp;as_yhi=&amp;as_sdtAAP=1&amp;as_sdtp=1" title="Click to search Google Scholar for this entry">Google Scholar</a></li></ul> Gender History of Education Teaching and Teacher Education Thu, 13 Dec 2012 00:24:12 +0000 kkerns 25631 at https://www.stanford.edu/group/cubberley Gender and equity budgeting project : a situation analysis of the gender and equity responsiveness of the pre-primary, primary and secondary school level of the Uganda education sector : final report https://www.stanford.edu/group/cubberley/content/gender-and-equity-budgeting-project-situation-analysis-gender-and-equity-responsiveness-pre- <div class="field field-type-text field-field-biblio-featured-queue"> <h3 class="field-label">Featured Queue:&nbsp;</h3> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't Queue </div> </div> </div> <span class="Z3988" title="ctx_ver=Z39.88-2004&amp;rft_val_fmt=info%3Aofi%2Ffmt%3Akev%3Amtx%3Abook&amp;rft.title=Gender+and+equity+budgeting+project+%3A+a+situation+analysis+of+the+gender+and+equity+responsiveness+of+the+pre-primary%2C+primary+and+secondary+school+level+of+the+Uganda+education+sector+%3A+final+report&amp;rft.date=2011&amp;rft.tpages=60&amp;rft.aulast=Nalwadda&amp;rft.aufirst=Rose&amp;rft.pub=Ministry+of+Finance%2C+Planning+and+Economic+Development&amp;rft.place=Kampala"></span><div class="biblio_type"><h3>Publication Type:</h3> Book</div> <div class="biblio_authors"><h3>Authors:</h3> <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/author/26083">Nalwadda,Rose</a>; <a href="/group/cubberley/biblio/author/26085">Uganda.
