Industrial Affiliates Program

Center for Probing the Nanoscale Industrial Affiliates Program

The Center for Probing the Nanoscale (CPN) is an NSF-funded Nanoscale Science and Engineering Center that develops novel tools to map electronic, magnetic, mechanical, and other material properties at the nanoscale. The CPN Industrial Affiliates program builds partnerships between Stanford researchers and companies that have a strategic interest in nanoprobe development. Our goals are to foster broad intellectual interactions between CPN scientists and industrial partners and to facilitate the rapid implementation of Center technology for the benefit of society. The CPN Industrial Affiliate Program provides key opportunities for industrial partners to connect with Stanford scientists through focused workshops, seminars and student recruitment opportunities. Industrial Affiliates also have facilitated access to CPN invention disclosures and our intellectual property portfolio.

Membership in the CPN Industrial Affiliate program has three levels with the following benefits:

Silver Industrial Affiliate

  • Seat on the External Advisory Board. Board members contribute to the Center by:
    • Advising the CPN Executive Committee on project and funding priorities.
    • Discussing emerging technology issues with CPN scientists.
  • Free access for five company representatives to the CPN Annual Workshop, CPN-sponsored Focused Research Workshops and monthly CPN Theme meetings (research-in-progress seminars).
  • Facilitated interactions with CPN students and researchers.
  • A newsletter highlighting current CPN activities.

Gold Industrial Affiliate

In addition to the basic benefits of the Silver Industrial Affiliate membership listed above, Gold Industrial Affiliates have facilitated interactions with the faculty and students working on specific seed grant projects, including regular written and verbal updates. In addition, Gold and Platinum Industrial Affiliates receive:

  • Seat on the Seed Grant and Fellowship proposal review committee. This enables Gold and Platinum Industrial Affiliates to review CPN Seed-Grant and Fellowship proposals which provide a unique preview of next-generation research at Stanford.

Platinum Industrial Affiliate

In addition to the benefits of Silver and Gold Industrial Affiliates, Platinum Industrial Affiliates have close interactions with scientists working on a project of mutual interest to the Affiliate. Students working on the project and the lead Investigator may meet with company representatives to discuss research in progress and technology issues of mutual interest.
