Closeness, Intimacy, and the Humanities
This is the website of the Stanford Closeness Project. Funded by the DLCL Research Unit, we focus on intimacy and proximity as concepts at the center of an interdisciplinary field of inquiry in the humanities.
With no a priori definition of closeness in hand, our goal is to collect as many accounts and versions of it as we can and analyze the patterns that emerge. This can mean interpersonal proximity, spiritual connectedness, emotional intimacy, a close connection to nature and other animals, and of course closeness to art and literature.
Feel free to get in touch with us. Given our travel/work/class schedule, email is usually the fastest way to get a response.
Have a look at our ongoing collaboration with Cowbird as we collect micro-narratives of closeness from around the world.
This project is all about process, so keep track of ours via Twitter (@closeproject) as we share notions and news of closeness.
